Allotment Security Cameras? Need to find who is nicking our veggies.

Hello all

Just joined.

My mother in law has an allotment in Northamptonshire, and she has a problem with locals pinching vegetables and smashing shed windows.

Have you any recommendations of some type of camera which is self powered that can keep an eye on the plot and see who is nicking her vegetables.

At first she thought it was local kids as the window was smashed on the shed, but they arent nicking tools just lots of vegetables.

Thanks in advance

Hi PS
I too have had lots of produce stolen this year  >:(.
I too thought of a camera but that would  probably get nicked aswell and would have cost about the same as all the produce I would have gained form the plot this year.

if at all possible try to vary the times you visit so you dont have a set routine, difficult I know but the only thing I can think of.

if any one as any other ideas they would be very well recieved.
dont permissum dandelions frendo vos down.

If it cant be pulled by hand,
1; its not ready
2; use a landrover...

There's a woman whose 80 climbs over my aunts wall to steal her lettuce! She saw her at it through the kitchen window. My aunt would happily give some to her if she'd just ask!

You have to admire an 80 year old wall climbing lettuce scrumper.

I fully intend to be a nuisance if i get to that age. :)

From scouring the web a camera is definately the way ahead, and we found one that uses time lapse to capture a whole weeks worth of lettuce theft!

Anyone used one of these before?

You have to be very careful with cameras because of the laws on privacy and more recently child protection Gets even worse when you start talking about covert surveillance . A complaint could land you in deep trouble . Our TRA have an overt camera and we had to jump through loads of hoops to get it up and working.

Whoa there. Steady on.

I don't believe that there is any law relating to 'privacy' or 'child protection' that will prevent you installing a camera, covert or otherwise, to aid the detection of crime on your own property, whether that property is owned or leased by you.

If the original poster in this thread wants to install a camera concentrating on his or her own plot for the purpose of detecting crime then there shouldn't be a problem.

Whether it is worth £250 to do so is a completely different matter but will have nothing to do with any law.
The successes and failures of each year keep me motivated for the following year.

I stand by what I said ,  there is a very grey area of law concerning cameras even on your own property  which by the way an allotment is not also the use of cameras for survelliance in a public place is strictly controlled by law.

Just passing on my advice !
