Install a sign without the camera and see what happens.

Indeed!

There's quite a few websites that describe how to make your own camera from an old (free) webcam.  It'll work at night too, where that £249 beastie won't.  (Night time operation is another £100   )

See if you can get the local (to the allotment) community support policeperson(s) involved - we had some anti social behaviour around us and it was all solved calmly without recourse to expensive gadgets.  Call the local cop shop - I bet they'd be interested, especially if you can get a number of people to a 'meeting'

It's quite alright to post links to the sites here.  We only ban links to the posters own site9S0 or ones they have an interest in like an employer's.

Steve

I'd love to have the time to make and investigate the possibilities with motion detection with an Infra Red enabled webcam.  It'd require a good weekend of 'playing', which is something I just don't have at present.  One day....

Anyroads, here's some links...

Maplin seem to sell one readymade - http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=228786&C=SO&U=strat15

The downside to all of these is that you'll need a PC or a laptop and a power source to actually record the video/pictures.

While browsing the CPC catalogue earlier, as you do while sitting on the best seat, I saw they do something that'd be the business - http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/level5/module.jsp?moduleId=cpc/537694.xml - but at £150 it'd be cheaper and easier to just plant a few extra rows and leave a 'Help yourself' sign above them...  :D
