Chillies dropping flowers?
« on: July 20, 2010, 21:33 »
My chilli plants were doing really well and as the lower flowers appeared I hand pollinated them and they all set fruit leading to the lowest 10 chillis forming fine. Now as the higher much smaller more spindly flowers appear they just drop of pollinated or not. Please help?
The force is strong in this one!

Give the plants a tap every day to help the pollination, and spray  the flowers with a fine water mist as they set to help them 'fix'.  Also, now the fruits are setting, make sure you give them a tomato feed once a week

Two things possibly

1. Are they in need of food? The plants have set fruit  and might not be able to support more, so drop off any new ones

2. Too dry? Either at the roots or the atmosphere so you could spray them alittle bit with tepid water

Just things to consider  :)

Thank you both. I have been letting them get a bit dry as I read this makes for hotter chillis. It is not a pollination problem so will try to give them more feed and see what happens. Ta!
