White Fly
« on: July 15, 2010, 22:28 »
I've noticed quite a few white fly on my kale, broccoli, cabbages and caulis.  I think I have got the better of them now and it doesn't look like they have done too much damage, can anyone confirm this or is there going to be an unpleasant surprise to wait for?

There area couple of things to bear in mind

1. Whitefly breed really fast (about three weeks egg to adult I think) so you need to keep at it or there might be a big outbreak soon when the next lot hatch
2. They are sap suckers and so can weaken plants if there are masses of them
3. The sticky stuff they drip out gets back mold growing on it

Hope that helps

PS I use yellow sticky traps to catch them on  :D

Oh yuk, I will keep an eye on them, they are quite tricky to control arent they.  I might invest on some yellow sticky traps just in case they come back, thanks very much X
