Will Bantam Cockrel Mate with my Hens?
« on: June 26, 2007, 08:15 »
hello

we have been given a bantam cockrel to live with my 6 hens who are all large breeds (sussex, marans and welsummers).

he is alot smaller than the girls - but will he try and mate them??

sorry for being a bit thick, wasn't much good a biology at school!

yes, defianately. I have a bantam OEG cockerel in with 5 large OEG hens and he is always treading them and they are twice his size. To prove this the other day i cracked open some eggs a broody was sat on. because i thaught they would be blank but half of them had little chicks inside them. I felt really guilty then.
