My back garden is awful for growing anything in.  There is no real 'soil' just dust and dirt mixed with stones.  I know it's no good for plants (which I have to grow in growbags or in containers with purchased growing medium) but would this dry dirt be the kind of thing the chooks would like for their dust baths?  I thought of sieving some of it to get out the stones, then bagging some of it up to keep for them to dust bath in.  It's very dry and runs through your fingers like beach sand.  Is this any good for them?  Was thinking of putting it in a cat litter tray in the run.

Many thanks in anticipation of your answers.

Gerry

Can't think why not?  Mine have a fine sand dustbath in a tyre, but actually prefer making their own in the bare earth.  As long as it's dry and they can dig in it, you try stopping them! :D

mine usually make their own dust baths at the base of trees, so your bare earth will be just fine  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.

My Garden sounds a bit like yours but i also have plenty of grass too, but soil is stoney, and fine but my hens love digging holes in it to have there dust baths,
