Whoopee I cant wait
« on: June 21, 2007, 23:51 »
Hi folks, I thought I would be waiting another 2 weeks for my newly made coop, run and hens .But yippee I had a phone call to say all is ready and I will be getting them sometime over the weekend. Im sooo happy I can hardly wait.Ive chosen bantams over hens because of their size and they would have more room in their pen. Ive chosen 1 Silkie, 1 Plymouth Rock and 2 Belgiums. For the past 3 months I have been buying and studying mags and books. I must have read them over a dozen times.Made notes as well. Now its actually going to be happening im a bit nervous that I will get it right. The bits that worry me are the diagnosing of what seems like many illnesses.!This is such a brilliant site Im sure theres nothing to do with hens that isnt covered. Hope you wont mind me coming on again when they actually arrive Bye people x :D

Hi lizatros - good luck with your hens this weekend - you had better cancel anything else you were planning to do as you will end up just wanting to watch them the whole time :D

If hens are looked after well - good housing, food, regularly wormed etc - then the chances are they will remain fit and happy all their lives. To be well informed is good but don't let it stop you enjoying keeping them :D

Hi Lizatros,
I've had my three RIR girls a few days longer than you, but I must admit it's like having a new 'baby' in the home again.!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to go away this weekend to visit a very old friend 'up the line', I felt like a mum abandoning a newborn! (I did have an excellant baysitter though!).

This is THE site for help and advice, welcome.

Oh yes!!  Our very first egg!!!!

I've just been out to skip out the Girls and put them to bed and WOW a dear little brown egg in one of the nest boxes!

I've been in the garden with them most of afternoon digging out the footings for their winter quarters and there was a heck of a lot of scratching and Boc Boc Bocking going on,  I was taking the odd worm and slug over to their run and all three of them were so excited.

HAPPY DAYS and it hasn't rained quite so much today thank goodness.

LOL to all Hen keepers! :D
