Potting Shed - Used also as greenhouse!!!
« on: June 13, 2010, 22:44 »
Hi There

We need a potting shed to take some of the mess from our patio and have opted for a 10 x 6 wooden shed with windows on 3 sides so it will hopefully double as a greenhouse for tomato plants and anything else that need some protection.  The shed will be south facing so should catch a good deal of sun.

Will I end up regretting the decision and eventually end up going for a proper green house at some point???

Has anyone gone for a similar option to myself???

Thanks.   steve

I grow stuff in the window of my lotty shed. The mice got in once though and ate everything  :(  I blocked up the gap and carried on  :)  In there at the mo I have a cucumber and a few squashes  :)  You have to use what you have.  I've even used my car as a greenhouse when I've been desparate  :D

I got one just like it and its great, it works just as good as a greenhouse i think with the additional extra of getting somewhere to put your tools :D

Before I had my allotment I had a shed 10ftx8ft at the bottom of my yard. We caught the sun most of the day,but only had the windows on one side of the shed visable to the sun. My solution was to jig out the roof and replace the timber with glass panels! It worked a treat and I grew Toms,Cucs and Melon in there :D
...the night was dark...they usually are!

Thanks for your comments.

Looking forward to delivery so we can get started.

We have a good few Tomato plants that will need re-potting as soon as the shed is built.

I have seen a lean to affair which attaches to the outside of the shed; just a glass front and sides with glass sloping roof and one side opens for access.

I am thinking of using this idea myself as the planting trough I have at the moment is always drying out and is not productive.
