Broody due on Sunday :)
« on: May 21, 2010, 10:41 »
Normally this would be "day 18" when I'd leave the eggs well alone in the incubator... however my broody is fastened tight to her eggs - do I still need to pick her off the nest every day?

I wouldn't want to disturb the eggs if they are pipping.

I keep taking mine off the eggs (unless she does it herself) as she will still need to eat, drink, pooh and stretch (unlike an incubator which needs none of these ). I only stop when I see either a chick or an egg pipped  :D
Staffies are softer than you think.

I kept turfing out and she made it clear when they were pipping and wouldn't let me turf her out - total change in body language! Last year, different broody, was exactly the same. Just let her decide for the last few days, but if it is as warm there as here take water to her. I had to the last two days as Eve was sat tight and I was worried she was dehydrated so put a little acv in and put it to her beak and she slurped up no problems  :)

Thanks.  She has food and water in the coop with her, and only in the last couple of days has become interested in pecking at the grass again.

I'll pick her off tonight and from tomorrow I'll just have a peak under to see how the eggs are doing.

I hope they hatch after she has been sitting so well for 3 weeks!
