how to get rid of my damn brambles
« on: June 12, 2007, 21:35 »
i've got a patch of brambles which are getting bigger every day, i'd really like to get rid of them.  trouble is they are in a real awkward spot.  they are sandwiched between our 3 foot wall and the neighbours 6 foot one. of which there is only about a foot of space in between.  so i can't physically dig up the roots, only cut them back at soil level.  My first choice isn't to use nasty chemicals but i fear i have no choice here.  so is there anything i can do to eradiacte it ?

I had a similar situation our fence is about 1ft away from a neighbours and then another backing onto us is about 3ft away.  I spent last summer cutting back as much of the growth as I could and sprayed the rest with Roundup.  So far this year there has only been a few signs of regrowth and if I spray on a nice sunny day it soon dies back.

It takes a lot of patience but it is worth it in the end.  You can beat it.

Pile on 6 or more layers of corrugated cardboard.  Hold in place with growbags / bricks / whatever.  When/if the brambles break through, do it again.

I've got some persistant ones down the allotment which are growing at the side of the path boards - borads would have to be removed to get the brambles out properly - every time I go to the plot I snip them them down to the ground with secateurs apparently they will give up eventually
