Hello again,

Broody query-3 chooks(16-20 weeks old) in residence for 10 days, one started laying almost immediately and the others started today- i thought one was being murdered she made so much noise in the nest box. The remaining hen laid but did not want to leave the nest box- she sqwawked, pecked and laid low. I took her out after a couple of hours- surely she can't be broody???

Food Query- One will eat the layers from the feeder but the others will only eat it if I spread it so they can forage for it. They have access to greens, grit and shell and I give them a hanful of mixed corn in the late afternoon. Am I being too soft re the layers- i don't want to encourage vermin??

If there were no greens or scattered pellets then they'd all soon get hungry enough to eat from the feeder! ( as long as there is no nastiness going on with new & old girls which doesn't sound like the case from your post.  )    But hey they are meant to be a little spoilt arn't they?
