How likely is it??? Genetics type question :)
« on: May 06, 2010, 07:14 »
That I would get a pale yellow chick hatch from two lavender pekin adults??

They are not pure colour wise as they have a few gold feathers on their necks..... but I have never hatched anything but little grey chicks from them :)

I thought it was a little serama as it is the right size and colour.... but wow.... the feathery feet!!!

Or the other possibility is that its a serama...... but with hairy legs/.... again this hasnt happened before, but not hatched that many yet!!

Thoughts anyone :)
I love Pekins, Polands and Seramas :) and eggs!!!

Hi Chookie

I don't know the answer but I've just hatched yellow chicks from 2 lavender araucana!  The cockerel has 'blonde' highlights round his neck which may explain it.

Bet it's really cute!  I love pekin chicks :-)

the blond highlights on the lavender cockerel is the effect of the red gene with the lavender gene. As he gets older it may get more brassy and also show on his wings.

The yellow chick (possibly white when it feathers up) is perfectly normal, it depends on their ancestry and genetics.
Staffies are softer than you think.

It is fairly common to hatch a white chick f any lavender breeds, dont know for certain why, but the colour lavender was 'made' somehow.

Like Joy, one of my araucana chicks is nearly all white with bits of lavender.  She may end up white (again I have no white araucanas only lavender, barred lavender, black and black/red)
but if she stays white and lavender, is that unusual Teapots?

So if either Joy or me have a cockerel and the other is a hen, we could join forces and have a new breed of Lavender/white Araucanas!!!!

Oh that means your friend could have white/lavender too!!!!   :D
