I planted my strawberries about a week ago, how often and when should I start to feed them please?

I was under the impression they should be fed after the last fruits have finished not when you're eagerly awaiting there arrival.
   I could be wrong, I often am, according to the other half anyway

You could be right.

I treated mine like tomatoes for the last three years and it worked though

I was told by an old gardener that straws should not be overfed, they'l make lots off growth but not much fruit.  Just a feed of bone meal in the autumn.

Mine had a mulch of manure and some fbb last Autumn and that's all they'll get till this Autumn when they've finished.

I'll go with this one too -  loads of leaf and not so much fruit....apparently 

A quick light feed in early Spring is about all mine are going to get until they've finished producing fruit.
[Not only that - I'm keen to avoid the foxes noticing they are there so it's easy on the pelleted chicken manure - what a pong!!]  :blink:

Compost and manure went into the bed long before planting...

The reason you shouldn't feed before fruiting is that it encourages any fruit to take in more water and become softer. This makes fruit that quickly rots nor is it nice for jam making. The food and water you plants get after fruiting this year will determine next year's cropping.

I did not know you should not feed through the summer, thats why i got a lot of green leafs and not a lot of strawberries. I love this forum!

Me and all..! I've been gardening for yonks and I never realised that but it makes sense that you feed the plants after fruiting so they can build themselves up for the following year. My strawbs should, therefore, be par excellence this year! Does this apply to all fruit and can you get tastier toms by not feeding too much (or not over watering) as mine don't have the tom taste despite trying loads of varieties? My OH will be SO amazed if I can produce tasty toms this year.  :blink:
