I noticed today that some of my recently planted asparagus was looking a bit sad.  On watering it, I found the earth just caved in.  Evidently moles are about.  I don't know whether the affected asparagus will recover or not, but how on earth do I deter moles from digging in my plot?  I have seen so many devices advertised, do any of them really work, or is there somethign I can put in the holes to put them off?

My neighbour advised me to sit quietly with a shovel and wait 3 hours unti lthe moles pop their heads up ... that's what he does apparently.  He's obviously got more time on his hands than me!

Is there anything else that works?

Children's plastic windmills stuck into the soil. The vibration drives them away.

Before you do anything drastic try the old country way. When everything is quiet ask the moles very politely to go and live somewhere else. It helps if you suggest a better home, such as your neighbours plot.
