Spit and grit.

Wet your finger and touch a bit of dirt then rub the label. Works a treat and its always available.

I spent a miserable hour with the pan sponge and some warm soapy water. So I now have 200+ nice clean labels to lose in the soil again.

Next time they're going in the bin - life is just too short to wash plant labels.
