Must Use A Pencil Next Time!
« on: March 17, 2010, 23:44 »

Had an enjoyable day, sown 8 trays of veg & marked my plant labels with a permanent pen or so i thought. An hour or so later after the propagator lids steamed up, i noticed the ink on all my labels had washed away through condensation :ohmy : :. Now i've got 8 trays of mystery veg
Guess i'll be posting pic's later on so you can help me identify what they are

Have they changed the ink in Biro ?

I always thought that was waterproof, but its definitely run over the labels (bits of paper).

Lardman, biro's not been waterproof for years. My son's homework was completely wiped over the page once in a heavy shower, and obviously that was years ago :D

I have told this before but it might amuse. Many years ago with limited time and only one good day at Easter to get a lot done I planted about 40 short rows of stuff, --- all the salads, beetroot, seedling rows for all the greens for transplanting later (I had no greenhouse then), leeks, and first sucession sowings of stuff like peas and beans. All properly labelled. Back to work next day - when I got home my little daughter had played postman pat with all the labels and an old letter box in the shed door (downside of using second hand doors I guess).
I could guess a few because of the spacing but I still had to wait to work out some and I learnt a lot about leaf shapes and even the smell of the leaves over the next few weeks.
Now I also keep a diary with sketches of layouts of planting.

"... with sketches of layouts of planting"

I do that too both in case the labels go AWOL but also to assist my ageing memory to remember what was where, year-on-year, and how much of it I grew.

Won't be long before someone mentions the "spreadsheet" word!!
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older
