Deformed eggs and egg contents
« on: April 16, 2010, 00:18 »
Help.  One of my 5 chickens has laid what can only be described as a foetus with no shell.  The eggs are all unfertilised but this definately resembles a partially formed chick and is the size of a small egg.   All the chickens appear visually in good condition and are not showing any signs of unusual behaviour. Can anyone shed any light on this for me before I go to the vet?

It could be a lash, where a rubbery-like amount of tissue is expelled.  It's usually not harmful, though it may be awhile before she lays again.
