Cutting combs Dubbing
« on: April 15, 2010, 21:58 »
I was reading today about modern game cockerels having their combs cut off with scissors to get a better line for showing.
Surely this cannot be legal in this country in this day and age.
I believe this is called dubbing.
Is this legal and if so what is its supposed advantage?
Now retired from the day job and working hard on my smallholding.

It sounds like a disgusting barbaric practice to me and must be excruciatingly painful.

It was originally done with fighting cocks to prevent their head gear being damaged in a fight and the bird bleeding to death.

If it's not illegal it should be ! >:(

Couldn't agree more with you and frankly was appalled to read about it today.

if you go to poultry shows you will see the birds with this done, the tops of their combs are flat and shiney.
Not long ago (whilst looking for a goose book I did see a book on the internet about duddin and how to do it
Staffies are softer than you think.

It seems to be very popular in certain circles having had a good google. I really am shocked as many seem to argue it is not cruel and should be allowed to continue  >:(

Thank you... sort of! It really is a barbaric archaic practice that should no longer be allowed unless for medical grounds  >:(
