Watery poo
« on: April 09, 2010, 22:52 »
My POL Bluebell is doing watery poos - plenty of feaces but lots of water too. She is otherwise fine. The poo manual says that it may be she is not eating enough or is overheating. She has plenty of food available and is not being bullied out of it, so I guess it must be the heat. It has been fairly warm in the last few days but not hot; there is plenty of deep shade available. If she's struggling now, how will she cope in a hot summer?! Advice pse?

Thanks, N

Hi Neil,

Have you seen her eating? Might she have a temperature? Try checking under her wing. Its a bit if guess work - compare her temperature to a couple of your other girls.

I agree it isn't THAT hot just now - but it has gone from Winter to summer overnight almost,  but she should just be enjoying the more pleasant weather.

I'd keep a close eye on her to see if she is eating whats available, and if shes as lively as usual.
Someone else more kowledgeable than me will be along soon...with sage advice!
Good luck.

weird, I was just thinking about posting the same thing.
do you mind, Neil, if i hijack a bit?

Jessica (now 2and a half) has been doing watery poos this week.  i noticed it on Thursday morning when i was in charge (i don't know how long she's been like that becase i only look after the chooks two days in a week now they live with their dad- i guess he's not quite so observant...) Adam said that when he let them out this morning she went straight to the drinker while the others went for the food.
he said he's watched her today and she's been drinking more than eating.

very odd for Jessica, as well, because she normally can't get away from the feeder.
 :(
i've told him to check her crop before she goes to bed to make sure it's full.
i'm in charge al next week while adam's away so i hope it's nothing wrong...

excessive drinking could be a sign of kidney trouble (it was one of the symptoms my old dog had when her kidneys were packing up  :() or it could be just because of the change in the weather. Keep a close eye on her.
Staffies are softer than you think.

that was my first thought too, joyfull.

am i right in thinking it's more likely that my old one has kidney problems than Neil's POL?
or does age not matter?

I know ex batts can have this problem (dizzie lizzie told me ), but I think it's usually in older birds - but as I'm not a vet I'm sure someone will come along with another point of view  ;).
