She sounds as if she has an infectionto me.  She may need some antibiotics.

Does she have any other symptoms ?

well she was in the nest box two days ago and i thought she was going to lay an egg but she didn't.  If she needs anti biotics can i get them online without getting a vet involved.  She looks really sad her expression is unhappy (if thats possible)

That is the answer I was trying to get from you Shazzer.  Infectious brinchitis is a viral disease, so not treatable and may get better on it's own.  It is by no means definitly the cause but a reasonable possibility.

It is infectious and may be caught by the other birds.  A vets opinion would be a good idea but I would get some antibiotics for her (and the others if they catch it) to prevent any secondary infection, you will need a vets prescription for this.

Could it be that she has had a larger than normal helping of veg recently?

Took her to the vet who was unsure what it was, he said that his  vetnarian skills on chickens was limited to the basics and that a vet that treats farm animals would be better,he was very helpful but said he really wasnt sure whats wrong with her _ He didn't charge me which was kind, I thought.  He said he didnt think it was IB or cocci....??? something or other. Anyway I,m none the wiser and worried . Now i have to take her to this other vet .  Her poos are like water and there seemed to be a bit of red whcih the vet thought was blood, Her crop was a bit swollen he thought, and full of water, she has been drinking all day, but not eating.  One more thing she is breathing with her mouth open, and it sounds raspy.
