very watery poo
« on: May 29, 2009, 21:40 »
have noticed tonight that 2 of our hens have passed what looked like water, they seem to be eating well, i have looked at the poo pictures, but these looked like just water when they were expelled. most other poos appear to be ok, they are in the process of changing feed manufacturer.
as most poos seem ok are we being to observant, or could there be a problem.
they also have a calciplus addative in their water for the last 2 days.
any suggestions ?

I would imagine it is their way of cooling down, drinking lots of water does lead to rather watery poos in this warm weather, as long as they look healthy I wouldn't worry  :)

As Foxy said it does sometimes happen in hot weather, although I have a hen who does it all year round.   Just keep an eye on her.

Why are you adding the calcium suppliment to the water ?

we had 3 soft shelled eggs, from florence as she came into lay, so to make sure she was having enough calcium to make a shell we added it for a couple of days to help her, the 3 bantams have all been ok, but just gave it as a help when she started.
just 2 blue laced red wyandotte to go and they will all be laying...

We've been having some lovely warm weather right now, and I imagine that your hens are trying to cool down a bit.  Just make sure they have lots of fresh cool water and some shade to relax in.   ;)
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!
