cannelli beans any tried growing them?

Question in the title really have some dried beans from a friend who grew them in Scotland in a greenhouse.  As Leeds is far further south could I grow them outdoor?  Another question do you soak dry beans before planting?
Time waits for no man and I can't wait for growth.

Just sown some borlotto and fagiolo di spagna bianco (butter beans.) beans today in paper pots that I purchased from Seeds of Italy. It's a first for me so I can't say wether things will turn out right but what the heck they have two choices :D

OK....just a thought...might not be relevant.....when I was reading One man and his Dig... he grew some beans that he then carefully dried etc (and cherished) only to find that when he and his wife went to use them there is some kind of bug/beetle that gets inside them bears its time and then feasts on your harvest.  Might be worth checking in preparation for your harvests (I'll check my copy when I get it back but other members have read the book so may be able to enlighten you...)

I grew borlotti last year in blackpool, didn't get a massive harvest but I've put that down to my naff growing abilities ... so this year I'm going to be putting in 3 times as many ;)

I grew a few cannellini last year just to try and they were very successful so this year I'm growing more of them. I grow borlotti and red kidney beans too
