I believe mustard is supposed to speed up the lifecycle of wireworms.  I'm planning on growing mustard as a green manure on some of the plot so we'll see what happens.  Let you know in a couple of years   :D

I thought they just didn't like the smell

Our new plot has quite a lot of wireworms in one section.

Anyone know any good deterrents, please?

Will they affect fruit bushes too?

I've dug up a few (23 actually) and crushed them, but I was wondering if there are any quicker ways of daling with the blighters please?

cultivate and let the chickens follow you.jobs a good un.

mustard green manure works against eelworms ..i don't think it works against wireworms
From one of the forum info pages:-
Quote
After you lift potatoes. planting agricultural mustard will help to reduce eelworm by hardening their cysts and preventing them from emerging on time, confusing their breeding cycle. Be careful though if you have club root because mustard is a brassica and mustard green manure can further spread the disease.

It didn't work against them for me so there's some practical experience. Birds seem to work though in the spring when they are particularly on a food hunt.
