Trikidiki - I guess the 30" is because that's how high they are projected to grow and you don't want one row shading out it's neighbour. Also peas do take up a lot of width.

My varieties can grow to 2m but I'm, not giving up that much space between rows. About 1.4m works for me (I give them the width of a 70cm paving slab as a planting bed, and put single 70cm paving slab 'stepping stones' between the double rows).

You might have sown dwarf peas, in which case they probably won't need any support, or only low stuff.  I'm doing Early Onward and will just push in some old shrubby sticks into the soil for them to grow on

You only need to provide some twiggy sticks for peas, nothing fancy.

Sorry SwingSwang, I was being sarcastic about Yorkie not having much room to pick when he only left 18-24 inches between rows. I'll use some sort of smiley next time.

The old boy I used to share the plot with gave me a great tip. He sowed his beans in pots then at planting out he would toss a couple of seeds in the bottom of each planting hole to provide a new plant a couple of weeks later.

That went straight over my head  ::)  Must have been bending down to pick my peas  ;)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
