Hello every one,
Well just had a very busy morning cleaning all the chooks out and thought that i would take some pictures of all my girls and boys, but i do have a couple of problems.
I brought some chicks about 10-12 weeks ago, believing them to be Arucana's, (picture attached) they were brought at an auction, and were sold as one lot. They were approx 2-3 weeks old. But still being a newbie with chickens, i didn't know and Arucana from a buff orpington, so i brought sold as seen!!!! I'm happy with these chicks and they all seem healthly and happy, but now they are getting bigger something tells me that i haven't been sold, Arucana's!!!!! There may be one in amongst them but i think thats about it. Can anyone help tell me what i have???? I think some may be Light sussex and perhaps a buff sussex, there is also 3 that are looking a lot like Balck Orps. and the one little grey one that i think is the Arucana.

My Second problem is my RIR, i have 3 cocks and i know i need to get rid of 2, but which 2??? how do i tell which would be the best one to keep, i hope next year to breed and increase my hens. (again pictures attached of the 3 boys)
Many thanks in advance.

My 3rd problem is i can't work out how to put the pictures on here Hhhhhhheeelllpppp Please.

That's the problem with auctions,  I expect they are not pure breeds either, probably cross breeds.  None the worse for that I'm sure though.

hi nails! your grey one looks just like my little araucana and i think you are right, the others look like sussex - ive not got black rocks so dont know about them.  they look nice and healthy all of them.  which auction did you buy them from? i like the monthly salisbury auction just bought 2 banatams from there last weekend :), lucylou

Hi Lucylou
Revels poultry auction, near Dorchester.
The Black ones are Black orpingtons think.
I thought the little grey was an Aruacana too but thats the only one out of 10 that looks like that! But i'm not overly worried the others aren't as i have Black orps and light Sussex as well so will be able to put them in with thier own breeds when they are bigger.
Any suggestions on which of the RIR cocks to keep?

1st picture looks like a arucana hen, in the second picture the two light sussex look like cockerels, the black one at the back also looks like a cockerel (possibly Black orpington) I can't see the other ones faces.
The RIR cockerels only you can decide but if posible if you want tobreed I would keep all three to see which one looks better when they have matured.

i think the same about the first pic.
As for choosing the RIR i will wait until they are bigger, and see what they look like then.
