Hello I know how you are feeling getting 4 new ladies myself on Sat at 1pm ish they are Ex Batts  ( I think they will be rode island reds).  I have two Speckledys at the moment and they are not the friendliest ladies.  But are good layers.

the ISA brown will give you an egg a day. They have a range of colours though within the range of "brown".  I have a lovely creamy white and a deep ginger "brown" as well as a proper brown un, so I can tell the three apart.  The Isa brown or brown hybrid generally are for egg production if that's your main consideration. Mine are friendly, healthy and happy so I'd recommend them. Possibly the least expensive too.  If you get the ex batt ones they'll be these I suspect. As you can see my husband has softened and they are now back on the lawn

Nothing to do with original question....just would like to know about the netting stuff on the photo that CQ posted, is it the kind that you can just move around and if so where do I buy that sort of thing...for days when I want to limit access for the girlies.

I have something very similar. It is electric fencing.  You can get it in 25 m and 50m lengths.  fence link

You won't get an ex battery chook that is all Rhode Island Red, but I think nearly all the brown ones are half RIR.  Don't quote me as I'm often wrong!

The Amberstar is like my Amberlinks

As proud new owners (since last Friday evening) of two Sussex hybrids and two Isa Browns, I can recommend the Isas for friendliness alone! Our two can't wait to be stroked and love coming to talk to us.  The two Sussex hybrids are a bit more highly strung, although one permitted a bit of human contact last night and this morning. I suspect they'll come round, but the Isas are straight in there.

I bought some thin netting like that.  very cheap and blends in well with the rest of the garden.  got posts from our local BATA and they were only £2.00 each.  Hubbie was well narked after he had spent yonks making an enclosed coop which I then decided wasn't big enough and netted off part of the garden instead
