slightly baffling!!
« on: October 21, 2009, 15:21 »
I have a row of spring cabbages coming along quite nicely apart from a few nibbles here and there but there are 2 right next to one another where one is absolutely perfect not even a slight nibble out of it and the other one has been chewed to smithereens (I found a large snail which was tossed over the fence into woods)  I think I will leave the chewed one as a decoy now!!
some people are like slinkys......they're really good for nothing, but they still bring a smile to your face as you push them down the stairs!!

The snail will be back, i remember somebody marking the snail shell with white paint and moving them a good distance away. Most were back within a week!
Slugs and snails do seem to concentrate on one or two plants until they have eaten all the leaves then move on to another one.
Following the slime trails i suppose, it is normally better to eat at a busy restaurant. :D

If the slugs and snails don't think it is worth eating, are you going to?

the simple way to stop snails / slugs returning

step one                                 cut them in half

step two                                 jump on them

step three                               hit them with a brick ,

step four                                 pour yourself a cuppa after all that fun , lol

I spent many dark, Summer midnights stumbling round the raised beds with a flickering torch and big pair of scissors snipping hundreds of HUGE slugs and stamping on snails. The chickens did their bit between the wired off beds munching on the little slugs, snails and their eggs. (The slugs' eggs not the chickens!! ::))
This has actually WORKED!!! 8)
I have NO SLUG DAMAGE AT ALL!! :tongue2: :tongue2: :tongue2: :D :D :D
However my non-gardening friends think I should get a life......... ;)

I dont normally have trouble with snails and slugs at my plot they are more of a problem in the garden, I have had more trouble from a cat which keeps using my beds (and my neighbours) as a toilet maybe I can throw the cat into the woods?? JOKE!!  ::)
and I dont mind eating veg that creatures have nibbled on (or not) I ate a cauliflower that had a caterpiller crawling on it (in the fridge) although I didnt tell my husband
