You can get black (almost) peppers, but it could be that yours are getting cold. They appear to be outside.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Apparently they do this before they turn red. Some of mine are doing this and do seem to be making it through to red. Some (different variety) just went red though.

Yep, it's like mixing green and red paint colours, sorta grungy. Then they hopefully end up red :)

I'd love to know if this happens to chili plants too.  My joes long (in the greenhouse) have had black stripes down them for some nearly 6 weeks now and I want red ones.  anything I can do to help things along and turn them red?

Yep. Green, Black and then Red seems to be the colouring order. Of mine anyway. But, what I have done to aid the process is to stop watering.

Hope this helps?

Seriously, stop watering?  Completely or just till they look like they need a drink?

Yep. Here we are in the first week of October. Unlikely to get anymore new chillis forming. The chillis on the plants are all a reasonable size. So, now I want them to ripen. Pick, dry and store.

I agree -- leave off the water and either keep them warm on the plant or pick them and bring them in. They'll soon go red  :D

May be a daft question but if I bring the chilli plants in doors in the warm and water as required, will the plant live till next year of simply die.

Yes it does.  One of my varieites, Tokyo Hot, went black before they went red.

I would like to know that too, about bring Chilli's indoors.  Mine have done pretty well outdoors, but I don't have a greenhouse so could I bring them indoors on a windowsill.  They are bi-annuals aren't they, so could there be a possibility of gettng a second crop?
