moving asparagus
« on: September 16, 2009, 16:28 »
I've got asparagus in my garden which I planted just before I got my allotment. It will be three years old next year and ready to harvest. I just wondered whether it is possible to move it to the allotment now that it is established? or is this a no-no? If so, when should I do it?

If you try to move it you will discover that asparagus has HUGE roots, spreading out like the tentacles of an octapus.  Even if the plants survive you will set them back a couple of years.

I suggest you get some new plants for the allotment, and when they get going take out the ones in the garden.

Cheers,

Gillie
