Hi There,

I was wondering if someone might be able to help me/offer advice???

I was thinking about purchasing 100+ laying hens to sell eggs to catering establishments. What are the rules on this? We are Farmers and we grow and sell potatoes currently and wanted to add eggs to our rounds???

Do you think this is possible to do? Does anyone know of any poultry housing that will hold 100- 200 birds that can be moved around a paddock?

Hi Claire, if you are going to be selling to catering establishments you would need to be registered with DEFRA and the eggs would need to be stamped and graded as it is classed as third party.

It would be more lucrative to sell them at your farm gate direct at retail prices as most catering establishments still only buy the cheapo eggs from their cash and carry's.
