I live in London, so have a regular garden.  When I'm at home my hens are out of their run and spend the day in the garden. 

Two of them have jumped on the fence and have gone over into next door's garden.  She's put them back over a few times and says she's ok about it but her husband can be a bit odd and it wouldn't surprise me if one day I smelt roast chicken.   

If I clip their wings, would it stop them from being able to jump on the fence?  The fence is 3 foot 6 inches or 110cm high.

or how about putting a trellis on top of the fence?

I did wonder about that but the neighbours have asked us not to.  They are so patient with the hens, she looks after then when we are away so it's got to be my last option really.

I would clip one wing on each hen. Although.......one of ours used to get over their enclosure, which is a bit over 3 feet. But she only used to get over the gate bit  We solved this my stringing some wire across it (the gate) and she gave up trying to get over it in the end.

perhaps she thinks your going to put a 6 ft fence up try talking to her again a open trellis work she can still see the hens and talk to you. I have a couple of hens who can jump onto my shoulders in the hen house 6x4 only use the wings on landing I am 5-2" so they clear 4ft with out wings.
you can clip the flight feather on one wing I believe never done it my self

Hi, I've clipped a wing on each of my girlies. The one who looks the heaviest still manges to jump over a 4ft fence with no effort at all (cheeky thing  )

Hi, Thanks so much for the messages - haven't been on here for a while and forgot how useful this message board it.

Good idea on the trellis.  I'll look into that.  It may actually stop the neighbour from shinning over which apparently she does quite a lot!!

I think I will clip one wing on all the jumpers, not the ones who want their feet on the ground.  It's funny as the originals never jumped until the new ones arrived.  I think they have taught them a few tricks.
