Hello,

I am a newbie tomato grower this year. I have about 20 plants growing in my greenhouse, perhaps a little too many but I was feeling adventurous in March! I have just returned to the garden after a few weeks away and excitedly spotted a few red tomatoes, only to find that they have brown bottoms, so I guess I have blossom end rot, although I initially thought it was blight.

Whilst I was away some friends have been chucking water on the plants - I am not sure how carefully - but also with the deluges the greenhouse flooded and the plants probably sat in water for a few days. Is this likely to be the cause? Will the rest of my crop suffer the same, and is there anything I can do to stop the rot? Should I also be worried about blight, lots of the leaves don't look too healthy?

Any advice gratefully received.

Blossom end rot is likely to be caused by uneven watering, see this thread

Blight may also be a problem if ventilation hasn't been good enough - leading to raised humidity.
