OH NO Courgette
« on: July 02, 2009, 15:54 »
Well I went and done it didn't I ...........................Missed a courgette under the jungle of leaves and now have an enormous Marrow .  Weighing 4lb or Or 1.81kilograms to the younger people amonst us. ::)

I'm not even sure I like courgettes much grew them for my daughter who has her own place but not the garden to grow them in as such.  Haven't had marrow for about 20 years since kids were little and used to fill with mincemeat and cheese sauce.  Bet I have gone off them now.  Especially as I will have to eat it myself no one else will want it. :D

And to top it all I have found the plants still make me itch.  Didn't think they would as the fruit is not as prickly as supermarket one, but I am scrathing away here.  No effect when eat them though.

Someone at other halfs work mentioned that they don't taste of anything, if left to grow as marrows.......is this right?  Looking at what I could find on Google it does say specific varieties are for marrow growing.

To be honest from what I remember of Marrow 20 odd years ago they had no taste anyway.

I REALLY hope I like courgettes and they do as well as everyone says.  We've got 3 plants - one for Chris's giant marrow comp with our mate, and another two for trying out.I dont even have flowers on yet

Scoop out the seeds and stuff it with mince. I love stuffed marrow and an overgrown courgette is even better.
