Cockerel Problem - again!!!
« on: June 19, 2009, 21:29 »
Hi everyone
I recently started a topic about my allotment neighbour saying my cockerel is stoping his hens from laying. Apparently it is because our dividing fence is mesh and his birds can see my cockerel. Would this make any difference?  Out of 20 plus birds he is only getting about 5 a day.

Also he has added new young birds and a few weeks later some more new birds. Would this make any difference. One more thing, my cockerel was there before his new birds were added.

Help needed to resolve this problem please.

Has he seached around to see if they are laying their eggs elsewhere ?

He could have a disease in his flock due to new birds. He could have bought in some birds that are egg eating.
There is no way on gods green earth that a cockerel will stop a hen laying.

Why would the presence of the opposite sex stop a hen from ovulating? The species would of died out a long time ago.

Give him a copy of Origin Of Species and tell him to plant a hedge.

I have 2 cockeralls, both of which can be seen by next doors flock of 14 birds, and they are still getting an average of 10 eggs a day.

Patrick, the Buff Orp, parades around in front of them and they all watch him, impressed, and haven't stopped laying at all.  Patrick was there before they were.  Your old fella is talking a load of tosh I'm afraid and you can tell him I said that!  ::)
