What to do with eaten plants
« on: June 17, 2009, 18:51 »
Hi all
We put some Cabbage, Brussels, and Red Cabbage, in the allotment. Over nite something has had all the leaves off them. The hearts look ok. Can someone advise me on what to do. I realise its a bit late now, but i have just bought some netting and slug pellets to try and stop whomever it is. What should i do with the eaten plant's leave them in or remove and replace with new ones covering with net and putting slug pellets down. This is my first allotment and it looks like iim learning the hard way.
       cheers
         Haydn :(

If the hearts are ok, as Ropster says ..they should be ok, sow a pinch at the end of the row in case you need some spares!
If you can't see any eggs or caterpillars then you should net them, before the butterflies get them :(. if you find nasties squash them before you cover of course
But the damage sounds like slugs or snails to me so you can put some pellets round, or some beer traps, under the netting.
