Just reading the comments on ´what type of tomato are you growing´ and I have about 8 plants of Roma (in fruit, some very large) I hoped for a nice eating tomato..... are these not?  Do I need to suddenly sae my jars?  If so, how do I bottle tomatoes? :?

Roma are better cooked than raw. I've no experience of bottling (google for canning as the Americans mean bottling )
We make them into a sauce and freeze them - takes a lot less room that way. When really busy we have just bunged them in the freezer - really easy to skin when they defrost. Not the best way but sometimes you cut corners.

so all my gloating about having tomatoes almost ready to eat is backfiring on me then?  Will make hubby happy as he likes pasta and tom sauce

Roma make a great sauce - or you can also cook them in their own juice as a breakfast tomato. I don't think they'd fry or grill well though.

I haven't grown Roma but I have grown other plum tomatoes and they taste lovely roasted in the oven.

My Roma plants know bad things have been said about them as eating toms.... I watered them this morning before going out at 10.30am and on return at 5.30pm one tub was looking very sad.  The temperature was up well over 30deg on the patio!!  I watered them quick and within minutes they were looking much happier.  Tomorrow I will make sure they have some shade from the bright sunshine! :shock:

Roma have been saved....... found instructions for sun-drying tomatoes.... guess which variety is best? Roma  All we need is a few days bright sunshine- yep- low humidity- yep and a cover to keep off bugs and dust... looks like my toms are safe
