FINALLY I HAVE A PLOT...

Last night I finally got myself a plot... only half a plot, but that will do me for now. Not thanks to the council who I sent an application in to since Dec and call every week, but to my Uncle, that knows guys on this site from the Social Club he goes in, who knows the guy that runs the self managed site..

Needs work and just back from a 5 hour stint, me and the missus are KNACKERED now, will post pics later. Bonus is a tap is just 2 feet away from us and only 3-4 other plots use it.

Met loads of people, all really nice and friendly.. plus 1 bloke that we know really well 5 plots down, small world

Hi Sadgit, me and my hubbie have worked on our plot since 10am this morning, just got back in 17.20pm. My body hurts all over, and listening to hubbie he is the same. Its very hot here in Sussex, think I've got sunburnt to add to the pain.
We have enjoyed our day. We put up our new Polytunnel, Dug over the manure heap, painted the Hen house to merge in with the field and carried on digging the veg patch. hope to sow seeds on Monday and start to plant potatoes and Garlic.

Well done sadgit....I had to get my plot in a similar way!
Leeds council has posters all over their plots letting people know they are available ...but can you get one???

Where I am there is a wait list for new allotments. I could probably get one further afield but like gym membership, I am more likely to maintain it when nearer to home!
The allotments closest to me are 200 yards away (maybe nearer) to walk, around half a mile by car, not really accessible with tools and wheelbarrows by foot sadly. I went on the list 12 months ago and in january I was down to number 10 (from 15) so still have a long wait.
But I suspect, having been on the allotments with a friend who has one, that some rundown plots get passed over to existing allotment holders without the knowledge and consent of the parish council as several plots last autumn were mysteriously dug over and replanted in places but the council swears they haven't changed hands.
I am miffed about this but can't prove it, and as I sometimes help my friends to maintain theirs I guess I shouldn't complain about others doing the same even if it amounts effectively to them obtaining a second third or in some cases fourth allotment, while I (and many others) are still waiting for our first one. bah humbug for the second time today!

good god I am knackered.. spent from 8am till 12:30pm digging at the lottie, then came home to start on the veg patch/garden at home... I just want to sleep now.

oh and I want to kill the damn cat of ours.. ripped out about 25 chilli seedlings, only got 1 each of certain ones now, thank god tis still early enough to stick more in... damn damn cat..

Isn't it exciting!!!! I Just got a new plot too - mine is on a brand new site and I have to take a plan of how much of it I want skimming and rotavating. Then I have to decide what to grow there and what to have at home. You're not at all a sadgit really
