I was planning to sow 2 rows of Carrots next to 2 rows of Beetroots but I've just read that you should not sow them together (bad companions) . Is this true ?

I did this last year and they were fine, this year I've got them together as well    sowing rows successionally as well, my son loves homegrown carrots

I did think it strange when I first read it, checked my other books and the internet and have found no other "bad companion" references. Oh well, stick to my plan and get sowing !

The only plants I've found that really don't like each other are beans and onions. Everything else gets planted wherever I have room, so don't worry about the proximity of beets and carrots. Any problems will be so negligible that you'd be pressed to notice.

My beetroot and carrots often end up next to each other - no problems at all over the last few years..... 

Last two years I have sown beetroot in a tray of very small 1"sq cells and planted out once big enough to handle... gives a more even and easily manageable row...

I've always grown my Beetroot in the "Roots" rotation zone, so along with Carrots - albeit perhaps not as companions.
