swede - sow in May/June.  I have clubroot on my plot so I go for resistant varieties - Marion is a lovely swede, but I also tried Invitation last year (a late sowing end of June) and they were practically blemish free (they mysteriously escaped the cabbage white caterpillar infestation, hardly any slug damage, or the little brown tracks that can sometimes occur - not sure what causes it)

brussel sprouts - might be leaving it a bit late so sow now!  I tried different varieties and they had different cropping times from autumn right through to late winter/early spring - have to say I can't remember all the varieties, but Evesham seemed to be the better for me.

'Tundra' is a nice cabbage ready from november and fully winter hardy.
'Caramba' is a sweetheart autumn cabbage that i loved last year, and also for autumn there's broccoli/calabrese 'marathon' is good.

I am growing four varieties of Kale this year, dwarf and standard curly, Cavolo Nero and something called Dinosaur Kale (I am expecting big things of this).

Can only say about the curly types so far and they were good last year.

I got my seeds from Nicky's Nursery.

mentionong winter crops - has anyone tried the red brussel sprouts - mine failed last year but have tried again although the plants seem very small - in pots outside about 3 ins high - compared to other brussells in pots about 5 ins sturdy looking  and raring to go - both planted at same time and hardened off at same the reds just seems reluctant :(
