Lonely's poorly.
« on: April 28, 2009, 23:55 »
she's been off colour for a few days now, hunched up, tail down, not eating or drinking much, crop feels normal, poo's are small and many (like melted chalk with black bits in it) she doesn't appear to be egg bound or in much discomfort,  just miserable and lethargic, she wheezes a bit when picked up, she's been dossing in my bedroom, she's booked in to see the vet at 9am tomorrow, i hope he can help her as she's our favourite and we'll be gutted if she doesn't see her second summer of freedom and sunshine, she deserves her day in the sun.

Keeping my fingers crossed for her at the vets today.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Good luck! Ex bats seem to be illness prone - I really hope that she pulls through, though - she certainly deserves another summer

Will thinks she has a respitory infection, she is wheezing a bit, he prescribed Tylan powder to put in her water (one teaspoon per 2 litres of water) and gave her a injection (she was very brave) she's by no means out of the woods yet, we can only wait and hope, i've checked the others and they seem alright so it looks like it's only her, Pip was half an hour late for school and we had to concoct a feasable story and she said there was no way she was telling them she was late because she took a chicken to the vet, i wish you all had a vet like Will, he really knows his stuff about poultry and is so kind and gentle with them, £17 well spent.

oh, tmg!

obviously, being not a vet or and expert in any way, i can't comment on her condition.

and the poos you describe are exactly the saem.

i hope yours pulls through.

big hugs xxx

no, the vet didn't know - he even x-rayed her.
he tried baytril and pro-biotic and cider vinegar.

we decided not to get a PM done because it hadn't affected the others in any way.

that's so sad, at least you tried everything, if Lonely doesn't make it at least she had one summer of freedom and for the last 10 months has been spoiled rotton, she's the only one who's allowed in the house, she comes in for her breakfast every morning, although lately she has been pushing it by turning up for afternoon tea as well, i think we love her so much because of the hard times she's had, she was relentlessly picked on and bullied by the other birds, she been sprayed blue, purple, covered with stockholme tar (so were we by the time we'd finished) it took her forever to get her feathers back and start looking like a proper hen, Babe even made her her own t shirt with her name on it, but................. she's not dead yet, and where there's life there's hope.

aaawww!

well, just you make sure you pamper her as much as you can possibly manage!

oh, and we got some pet food syringes from pets at home to make sure that she got plenty of fluid - we syringed apple juice and sweetcorn juice twice a day and water ad lib.

she's sure being pampered, she's been sunbathing on my bedroom window sill this afternoon, when the sun went in she looked so dissapointed i swiped the heat lamp from Super Duck no 17, left him in the cold and now she's sprawled under it looking smug.
