The new plot is going to waste at the momment due to rabbits eating everything I put down. The strawberries were all nibbled to ground level and the carrots are coming through now. I'm worried that the seeds and plants going down will go to waste as well as the plot. The plot was fenced off today just with posts and wire to keep the cattle out but it will be never ending to try using chicken wire burried in a trench and boards to keep out rabbits.

so....

Is the plot going to waste should I carry on putting seed and plants out ?

What will the rabbits eat and not eat ?

Should I try fencing better even though it will be expensive ?

Any comments, suggestions previous experiences greatly welcomed.

Many thanks as usual.

A site local to me has rabbit problems, and they have solid fence boundaries which go down into the soil - corrugated iron sheets or similar.

I don't know about rabbit-proof food.  Sorry  :(
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Our site is plagued with them.
A lot of people just get on with it but a lot of them have put up wire fenceing.
Me. I have wire fenceing and a live trap that I took 6 rabbits out of last week  :D
Very nice they were too

Thanks yorkie.

Trouble is that my plot is a only one so anything I do I pay for. I did think about sprays or deterents e.t.c but I don't want to be spraying anything on my veg if you get what I mean?

I don't think there will be a spray you could find which would deter rabbits, even if you were happy to try it.

I dont think there is anything that they dont touch
I understand that they dislike onions and the likes but you just try telling that to the ones on our site

From what I understand there is a device that you can get that detects movement though a pir and once detected it shoots a jet of water, not sure if that would work with rabbits

If you would like plans for a live trap send me a pm with your email addy  :D

I think that rabbit proof fencing is the only long term route to go G, sorry, and it will be expensive but it will pay for itself in the long run.  In the meantime, use the traps Hindy suggests, but it wont stop others nibbling  :(

Is there anywhere on here that I could put the plans so that people could see them?
Basically a word doc with pics.

Thanks peapod and hindy.

I'll pm hindy with my email addy and then see what options are available or leve it since its my first season and accept that there will be some damage and loss but to what extent is the thing ? What if I left a bowl of carrots and lettuce so they don't have to go nibbling ? :D

We'll have to ask Aunt Sally or John.

I could put all the instructions here and the pictures but they would not follow so best as a document.
