Rabbits (again)
« on: May 28, 2007, 11:19 »
I have some cabbages in an area (not netted) where the rabbits have eaten lots of other stuff but NOT the cabbages (usually the first thing to go).

Only thing that is different is that the cabbages are surrounded by a black polythene mulch. I wondered perhaps if they didn't like walking on polythene  :?:

Has anyone had experience which would support or dispel this theory please  :?:   Don't know if it is a fluke or a genuine discovery.

I have over 300m2 of heavy duty plack polythene dpm down, both as mulch for growing tomatoes, courgettes, etc. through, and as weed suppressant around the strip beds cut out of it for growing strawberries, french beans, sweetcorn, etc. in.

The whole area has had to be fenced against rabbits or they will eat the lot and try and burrow under the polythene.

Ah well, seems as if another theory bites the dust.

Comments and appreciation thereof have been noted, AS and Trillium.

I've recalled one effect of polythene of rabbits - they don't seem to like pooing on it (unlike old carpet which they love to use as a toilet).
