Seville oranges

Seville oranges

Am I right in understanding that these oranges are now 'out of season' as I am unable to buy them anywhere.

If this is so, what can i buy in place of them to make some Marmalade for friend coming to visit in 3 weeks time!

For years now, my mum has bought the contents for a marmalade pre-prepared.  I think they come in a large-ish tin of chopped seville oranges (or whatever is done to them).  I don't know where she gets it but I would't be surprised if it wasn't in one of the major supermarkets.

She then just mixes it up with the rest of the ingredients, adds a slug or two of whiskey or other liqueur if desired, and bob's your uncle.

(actually, Roger is my uncle but it doesn't make such a good phrase  8) )
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

It's called mamade seville oranges and tesco sells it

Maybe try a mixed fruit marmalade instead. I'm sure I've come across one with lemons, limes, grapefruit and (ordinary) oranges.

P.S I have one seville orange in my freezer... any ideas??!!

It's just peeled oranges ....that's all doesn't contain anything nasty........just allows you to make it out of season :)

The only other option is to use sweet oranges but add some lemons to the mix

I made a lime marmalade following a recipe for Oxford marmalade using Sevilles.  It was very tasty (although the colour was a little odd: tan with definite green overtones), and the bitterness worked very well with the lime.
