she may have had her beak clipped, unless it's drastically different it shouldn't be a problem, as for her being sick, could it be an impacted crop? someone with more knowledge will tell you for sure, you may have to wait till morning, they are all in bed now, i'm only up cos i've got ducklings in the incy....................

err, i bought the covatutto 16 new from e-bay for £35  the sellar was ascot sales,  they have a very good follow up service, you could try them, my son Sam made the big one as part of a project at school, it's huge, but seems to do the job.
i thought you were worried about your hen?

I think we ought to get your sick hen better first AS.

Does her crop seem very full and does it feel soft when you gently squeeze it ?

Does she feel warmer than the others under her wing ?

Are her poos normal looking ?

Is her comb normal colour ?

Does her breath smell bad ?

Are there any other symptoms ?

Any chance of a pic, bird & spit would be useful :)  When you say spit, is it clear?

Is sthere anything in the spit, particularly blood?
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Anything coming back out of her mouth is not good. It could be an infection which by now would probably have infected the rest.
A photo of all them (individually?) would help a lot.

I'm guessing a vet having a look at her would be out of you reach ?

Chickens tend to hide their illness by pretending to be normal so they don't get picked on. She might well have more problems than you can spot.

Sorry about your girl. At least she is not suffering now. The vet was the right thing for her.

Agreed kate. Well done for taking to the vets. :)

Might be worth checking the run for any small bits. Ours will try to eat anything. ::)
