ps- I've told our 5 girls about Sandra not feeling well and they've asked me to send her some friendly clucks and a message of "get well soon sandra"

aw, your girls are so sweet!  ::)

adam's just phoned and she's had the x-ray.
she's definitely not egg-bound but the "vet who knows" (i assume that means the chicken expert) is on an emergency call-out at the moment, so when they get back, they'll take a look and decide what needs to be done.

so we're still on tenterhooks...

Oh blimey, poor you! The waiting continues. It's like having children isn't it?

sssshhhh! don't say that - i'm still trying to convince adam that kids is a good idea - if he knows this fact, he'll never want them!

found the thread i was looking for:

http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=31122.0

was absolutely sure it was something like that - she's not got the same kind of poos though..

almost worse than useless - the vet's just rung adam again - basically there's no egg (which we knew), they've given her more antibiotics (helpful), and some worming stuff, which we have to feed her by hand (again, not helpful cos we ruled out worms) and also that she's feeding from hand (which we knew because that's what she's been doing for me all weekend) and  that we've got to add vinegar to her water to prevent yeast infections (okay, that last bit was helpful).
so basically, we spent the money on an x-ray that has told us nothing and we're no further along than we were before - a poorly chicken and noone to help her.

Would never want to put you (or adam!) off small people- they are absolutely worth every second including the hair-raising bits   I read the thread link with interest. You could try some hands on healing- you can do this yourself just lay your hands on her and imagine whatever's causing the block shifting. You may or may not feel heat coming off her when you do this- it's usually a good sign if you do.
It may not solve the problem but you'll feel you're doing something and sandra will enjoy the cuddle and may respond to the positive energy. Finger's crossed for you.

Maybe she has laid an egg internally and has partly re-absorbed, sometimes that can happen she would look and act uncomfortable for a while and a bit swollen, that I doubt would show up on an Xray. Just a thought, would have been a relief for you both to know difinitively though.. Hope she perks up soon! :)

What would happen in that case Foxy- would it sort itself out eventually?

that sounds really odd!
the vet said that the calcium showed up on the x-ray (which i thought very clever!).
not sure how that would pan out if the egg has been re-absorbed, though.  would she pass it inside another egg?  ???

They are called "internal layers" the egg doesnt get as far as the shell, the yolk gets reabsorbed, just a thought as she did look a bit puffy down there? Has she laid at all recently?

How is she in herself today, a bit more perky or still lethargic.

ah. she hasn't laid for ages, but her comb and wattles are really pale, so i guessed that she wouldn't be trying to...

yeah, still lethargic!
hopefully the meds will do something...
i'm taking her to work tomorrow for the day so i can keep an eye on her (i have an upstairs room with a lino floor!!) she might perk up at the change of scenery

she seemed to enjoy herself, i think!
i kept going to check up on her every half hour, and every time i did, she was somewhere different (proving that she is moving around).
i've brought her in again today - it doesn't seem right to leave her at home on her own.
