that's a good point - i've not checked her armpit (mainly because she just seems to be hunching all the time - but i will do that when i get home.
problem with sandra is that last time she went to the vet, she was all jolly and cheeful when she got there!

Could it be she has Coccidiosis?

god, hope not!
the "poo" isn't blooming, though ,it just looks like there's no food in it.
i suppose you could call it diarrhoea.

when i got home tonight adam (who got back from holland at 4!) had brought her inside and put her in the wash basket with some newspaper (to read, of course!) and a bit of sweetcorn.
He thought it might perk her up a bit to have a change of scenery.
so she's standing (not sitting or anything) in the basket and every now and then jumps out to wander round (but not inquisitively). she still looks really quiet: almost like she's under sedation!  we'll observe her overnight and fingers crossed the vet'll be open tomorrow (not likely, but you never know!)

Vermx is not a wormer it is more like a herbal tonic. We bought pol birds that were vaccinated and wormed and have had vermx every month. We started worming with flubenvet on Sunday as we have had them on the same ground since October and had added some ex-bats. One of the ex-bats was passing undigested food and doing runny poos and since worming she has perked up noticebly. I was really shocked to see that one of our pol's (who looks amazingly healthy) did a poop in front of me and there were two worms visible.

It this Sandra Andreadon?
It does sound like she may have either have a soft shelled egg that she cant lay -by the sound of the symptoms and her droppings. Have a feel of her abdomen, I am sure you have already -but does it feel hard? The other thought -does the whole area feel a bit swollen? is she puffing just a little? I say this as I am wondering if it may also be egg peritonitis. A vet ASAP would be the best thing.
In the meantime, to make her feel comfortable and will help if there is a soft shelled egg, pop her in a warm bath (about half her body) for half an hour if you can.
Have a feel, perhaps comparing to one of the other girls. Hope this helps and good luck!

okay,  i'll have a feel.

(re: the armpit - i have felt under her armpit (with cold hands) and if anything ,her underarm was colder than it normally is)

i was rather hoping she just had the grumps.
(and she seems to sleeping okay - she's in the dining room and she sounds quite peaceful.)

seems a bit mean, but i felt under her body and she feels full, but not hard.
(it kind of feels like a pregnant belly)
so we've woken her up and put her in water.
we've put a low-ish light one because she keeps trying to close her eyes.
and she's just stood up, so i'm wondering if she's trying to pass something.
adam's just  shouted that she's moving like she's trying to make something happen.

me again!

what do we do if nothing's happened after half an hour?
do we keep her in there or try something else (i'm hoping we don't have to squirt her with olive oil)

Hi, after half an hour just pop her back in her box,try and keep her hydrated, even if it means syringing fluids. If there is a soft egg it will help her pass it. I am a little worried she felt "swollen". When did she last lay an egg do you think?

OK I think we have a laying or associated problem. She may have eggs backed up, difficult to tell. Does she look like she is trying to pass anything?
I think a vet first thing, but it doesnt look good I'm afraid :(
You could try and have a feel inside, and see if you can feel an egg???? you might be able to ease it forward. The very last resort is to break the egg if there is one there, but every peice of shell must be removed to prevent infection.
Try the bath again in the morning, if you have any yoghurt that might help. Try and keep her hydrated in the meantime, the sweetcorn is a good idea.
It could be something else, difficult to tell Im afraid, but all the best with her, will be thinking of you.

god knows if there'll be vet open on a saturday.

she's now gone to bed, so i won't disturb her.
i think
but i get up at sunrise to open the pop-hole, so (she's in the human house) i'll check her then and see if i can do that first thing.

she eats the yoghurt i assume?

we've put a bowl of water in the box with her (it's heavy) and we'll put the sweetcorn im too.

thanks foxy! i'll let you know in the morning how it's going!

no idea!
thanks, su: when i got up to see to her this morning she looked okay, not much better, but not worse.
unfortunately, I've had to come to work, but i've left adam in charge, and i've told him how to post a message!

anyway, she was eating and i've put her box on the table so she's got some light.

(i didn't check inside her because i don't really want to traumitize her - plus i'm not sure whether foxy you mean to actually check inside her (we don't have any gloves you see....)
but if we can't get to the vet, i'll get some gloves and have a poke around.  )
