You opened that door nicely for me, Auntie.

Here's today's - fed six people with left overs.

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Six or so seed, every 8". Thin out to strongest.

Nothing else special. Warmth of soil is the major factor in germination IMHO.

I leave mine to grow a lot closer than that.  That's probably why they are smaller.

That's the size of mine and I had quite a few that were bigger still, real monsters as parsnips go. I just used open pollinated Hollow Crown. The spacing is important, at least 4" apart in all directions and plenty of muck, watering and regular weeding. I had to use a fork to get mine out, some of the root tips went to almost 3 ft which is incredible in my sub-hardpan soil. A few forked but most were dead straight. And mine were seeded in april as well for a good head start and pulled in early Oct.

Hollow Crown here too, and at 26 p a packet, an absolute bargain.  I grew mine on raised beds (as I don't dig) but I got whoppers and had a right job to get them out as they'd gone into the soil below the base of the raised bed  :D

Phwoar! What a cracker DD! My OH is salivating as I speak..mine are pathetic puny items in comparison (well Im assuming they are,I have only pulled 2 so far :-) )
Hollow crown also, about 4 inches apart. Germinated at home then transplanted

Still,Im proud of my swede this year  :D
