Well priced Chickens
« on: November 20, 2008, 17:22 »
Hi guys,

we've just started at this chicken game, mainly for the eggs really, not to concerned with numbers of eggs just a constant production really. The coop was built yesterday and we now need some hens to put in there, does anyone have suggestions for where to go for those 1st chooks at a reasonable price (better if free) that would be suitable for us beginers?

What breeds would suit is the main really, according to the 'instructions' it will hold 6 medium chickens but I think 4 would be a better fit.

Any suggestions welcome and we are willing to travel.

Somebody not a millions miles away is known for reasonably priced chickens.

Obviously wouldn't like to name names but can't recommend highly enough. :)

And we owe them a cup of coffee

Well we have collected our 1st set of hens from Grannieannie and they all are great and seem quite content (the egg on arrival has been taken as a good sign) kept cooped up for the afternoon we will let them into the run in the morning.

Very exciting and the little boy is loving having them just outside the window now.......

Many thanks to Grannieannie for letting me know about the chooks availability and of course the good advice.

You got an egg??????  Oh that's wonderful!  This afternoon I had a call from a chap who bought 20 off us when they were only aout 12 weeks old, then he bought another 20 a few weeks later.  He called today, out of the 40, he hasn't had one egg yet!!!!!  But he wants another 20 next week!  So I'll try to pick some layers out now they've got the combs!!!! lol

And another man is coming next week for 25, so with me keeping 24 for me, there won't be many left!

Thank you very much for your custom Jon, and I hope you get loads of fun out of your new girls!!!!!

Tell him to sit tight, we had another 2 eggs this morning and 1 was a double yolker!!

They seem very content this morning (despite the snow) and tucked into their feed really well.
