Hi, not been on for a while... Due to the fowl weather lately, I'm worried my girls are off to bed absolutley sodden, they look a terrible state when I close the pop hole... Are they quite hardy birds ? Am i worrying about nothing ? They seem to sit out in the pouring rain rather tahn finding cover or sanctuary in the coop !!

I made mine a winter shelter and they are using it. I put it where they could see everything though and I think that helps

Bright and sunny today so good to see them outside doing chickeny things and not soaking wet.  I hate to see them going to bed with wet feathers. You could always towel them dry if you've not got too many

Although they look horrid, remember chickens are naturally outside animals, used to roosting in trees and Brian said their feathers are waterproof!  But our turkeys have been so muddy for days, that yesterday we put down 5 bales of straw in the run for them.  they are all nice and clean again today!!  (Until they eat all the straw!)

Hi Stamford mine do not go back into the coop in the day unless to lay.

I have created a "Rain Hut" for them to shelter in, they all use that.

I guess the main thing is to keep their food dry.

mine have access to their big coop all day, they have a big covered bathroom and a wendy house.

yet they still look like they've been srowned if it rains.

as long as they have shelter if they want it, then dont worry

Chickens can stand the cold but dampness and draughts will kill them.
