Planning for next year.

I'm doing my plans for next year, and have a Timperly Early rhubarb plant that has been very dissappointing. I have been manuring it well, and left it alone last year when first planted. It is in full sun.

This year, there were a lot of stalks, but all really thin and never very appetising. Some thing was eating the leaves, as it had a lot of holes.

Was i sold a duff plant? As i read that when a 'proliferation of thin stalks' means a plant is a sign of declining vigour.

Will i just chuck it out?
Liv.

from my experience with rhubarb it is a very hardy plant that should with some more nurturing be fine but if yaa want to get into a decent harvest of rhubarb sooner start again!

I can remember reading somewhere you shouldn't harvest it in it's first year or something like that. Could be wrong though, however it could be the reason why you haven't got much in the first year.
